Meet the baker
The journey to this point has not been smooth, nor have things 'gone to plan'. After studying cell biology at University College London, I went into teaching - a rewarding but demanding career! A year ago I left the profession to undertake a masters in clinical nutrition, but sadly injuries sustained in a car crash meant I had to drop out and led to me putting a lot of my life on hold. Feeling such a failure.
Baking was never on the agenda. In my early 20s I struggled with a very disordered relationship with food. At the height of this, the very thought of bread frightened me. I'd avoid it, and label it a 'bad' food along with other complex carb sources. But baking has become a salvation. A way to challenge a lot of the stigma and rules I had built around food, and build a positive relationship with eating.
With support from friends I've taken a leap of faith. Not to just do what I think is expected of me, and to pursue the things that make me happy. So I joined the @sourdoughschool and began my learning journey, one which has a long way to go yet!
